Question by Helen: Is a credit monitoring service a waste of money?
I had it for a few months because I was in the managing of getting a house and I want to get rid of debt. Now that i have a hold I desire to cancel it because it will save be 14.95 a month. But, I was also conceiving of keeping if for id theft protection but it is worth it? Should I just get the yearly free credit report?

Best answer:

Answer by Margie
Credit monitoring is valuable if you’re with the right accompanying. One particular credit monitoring company also provides identity theft protection and entire restoration on 5 different areas of identity theft (character, Social Security #, medical, driver license & financial/credit card). If your credit/social security # identity is ever stolen, you will know immediately with credit monitoring. If you’re going to spend $ 15 per month, you may as well get full protection and it can be gotten for $ 12.95 and it covers the family, not just one person. If you’re ever a victim, you’ll have licensed investigators working on your behalf. If you want more information, I’ll be happy to send it. Email me at mjlarioza@yahoo.com.

Nickolay Bokhonok asked:

Needles to say, that when it concerns your credit it is impossible to be too cautious. That is the reason why credit monitoring is a crucial step to consider. But before you get involved you should be informed about this issue. The following credit monitoring analysis involves key aspects you need to be aware of.

First of all it is essential to understand that credit monitoring provides a really convenient package that consists of important advantages of several services. As a matter of fact its key aim is not only to repair the bad credit but future damage to the credit can be avoided as well. This is achieved via alerting to any changes on your report.

So, as it was already mentioned credit repair is one of the major parts of credit monitoring. In simple words it means that your credit will be restored by regular disputing questionable derogatory items on the credit report. It should be added that the majority of people are not even aware of some negative aspect on their credits. This fact can not be disregarded because such errors can significantly drag down the credit score. So, the first step that is involved in monitoring is credit score reviewing. It will be useful for you to find out that professional services will provide a money-back guarantee.

The second step you should be aware of is prevention. In this way it will be possible to stop derogatory items before they begin.

Most companies will provide you with such services as:

1. In-depth monthly analysis of your credit report. It means that you will be aware of how your credit score is influenced.
2. Email notification. If your credit report is modified in a manner that can influence your credit score, you will find this out at once through email.
3. Insurance against identity theft. You will be provided with financial protection that is needed in cases the identity is stolen.

I hope this credit monitoring analysis made the matter clearer for you and now you are ready to deal with it without hesitation.

Corey

Identity fraud is the fastest growing crime in America, today. As technology is expanded, identity thieves become more sophisticated in using your information against you. In 2009, there were 11 million victims of identity theft in the US alone-costing Americans a whopping $31 Billion in lost funds! In 2010, it is estimated that one in 20 Americans risks being a victim of identity theft. Can you afford to lose money? Probably not. So how do you protect yourself? You could spend time every day laboriously monitoring your bank and credit card statements checking for unusual activity, worrying that it may not be enough. (show the image name “pile of papers”) Or, you could feel safe and employ the services of CreditScoreDirect Tri-Bureau Monitoring, a state-of-the-art system which will monitor your credit reports on a daily basis with all three credit bureaus.

Shane

Jani asked:

Aren’t they subject to the same rules/regs that banks follow? Wouldn’t reg CC and MMDA apply? I recently started working at a credit union that seems to march to its own drum! We have a random hold policy…depends upon the teller making the deposit! And members can transfer out of their savings multiple times per month! Over the phone or computer or even using savings as o/d protection, some more than 30 or 40 times a month! I’ve been with OnPoint Community CU over 20 years and they religiously monitor my account and I’ve actually had items returned because I didn’t have the money in my draft account and was relying on falling back on my savings, but had done that too many times in one month apparently. Even trying to transfer money online, it won’t allow me to do that.

I was wondering if perhaps CUs aren’t required to follow these regulations…that maybe OnPoint does it voluntarily. I mentioned this to our operations manager and she said she just doesn’t worry about it.
Ack, don’t know why I mentioned MMDA…was thinking reg D.
And when I mentioned that the hold depends on the teller making the deposit, I didn’t mean that they were sizing up the situation, I just meant that it was totally random! I have previous banking experience, just not CU experience. I know when the girls are just randomly picking an amount of days to put a hold on a check.

Maureen

Ms B asked:

I work in NYC, and if by any chance of a miracle I find lunch for under $10, some places have a minimum charge where you HAVE to spend a certain amount when paying with a debit or credit card. For some its $7 and others it may be $10. I just wanted to know if this was even legal. I know they have to pay for the machines, but there are thousands of people eating at these places everyday, so I’m sure they are making enough.

I guess it just annoys me because I’m not a fan of carrying cash everyday. I have my money monitored through my debit/credit cards for budget purposes, and I can’t keep track of everything if I have to take out cash all the time…just wondering…thanks.

Earl

Seems like every time you turn around these days someone’s reminding you to check your credit report to correct mistakes and, of course, to protect your identity. After all, identity theft is undeniably a huge problem, with more than 9 million Americans becoming victims last year alone! But, even if you do a yearly —or even quarterly– check, a lot of damage can be done in between. That’s where credit monitoring services come in. It’s now a multi-billion dollar industry, with all sorts of companies promising to not only check your reports, but also monitor accounts for suspicious activity and notify you almost immediately if something doesn’t seem right. Some even offer identity theft insurance. Are the services worth the money? Which one should you choose? The experts monitor the monitors!

Annie
